09 – Who’s the Head?

After Albert’s stroke, Jordan and I grew closer.  We always loved each other, but stroke brought us closer in ways that I would not have realized. We leaned on each other because we were in this crisis together; a crisis that was new to both of us; a crisis that we could not conquer alone; a crisis that we could not end.

As Jordan and I got closer, Al and Jordan’s relationship continued to grow more distant. As the months and years went by, there was little improvement to Albert’s physical and mental abilities.  Jordan behaved like Albert was not a man or the man of the house.  Jordan was disrespectful to Albert in his speech and mannerisms.  The disrespect was something that I would not tolerate.  We had long talks about God’s word, and God’s word stating that the man is the head of the household and that children were to honor and obey their mothers and fathers.  Jordan had to realize that Albert, even though he was disabled, was still the head of the household and that he had to be respectful of his dad.

I was working outside of the home, taking care of the family, taking care of the home, paying bills, chauffeuring Jordan to school activities, etc, and because I know God’s word, I showed Jordan by example, that Albert was still the head of the household in God’s eyes and in my eyes. I was a believer in God and would obey his commands. I wanted Jordan to see that I was an obedient child of God. This was a valuable lesson, a lesson that would come back to be a blessing to all of us.
